Chapter 10

Disparity

"I'm sorry I did that because if you messed with Serga-sama, you wouldn't have gotten away with it.

The crazy bastard left the guild, and the receptionist closed the window and went somewhere while saying, "I'm not going to deal with naive children, so I'm going to take a break.". Are you kidding me? Millis-san said to me that I should sell my potions to the first counter. What should I do now? While thinking about what will I do, the guard told me a little about the situation.

That crazy guy, Serga, is the second son of the baron's family, and he is a promising young apothecary who apprenticed himself to the baron's apothecary. He's quite known in this town, and it's rumored that he's about to graduate from being an apprentice and become an exclusive member of a noble family in this town.

And Linda, who is the receptionist on the first counter, is Serga's girlfriend, and recently she has been calling herself Serga's exclusive receptionist due to Serga's success. Serga is still in D-rank, and although normally at that rank the guild still doesn't provide a person with an exclusive receptionist but for the two of them they already think that she is his exclusive receptionists.

The guild can't afford to disrespect a noble family and a promising star of the apothecary profession, and it seems they're keeping an eye on things while making adjustments to prevent any damage from happening to those around them. But the fact still remain that I was attacked and hurt by him.

"....I'm very sorry, I didn't think that you were at the counter. I'm sorry but this time I will be in charge in the purchase of your goods."

As I was getting angry at the Merchant Guild as well, Millis-san, the exclusive receptionist who had just processed my guild certificate, came and sat down at the first counter.

If it was the slut earlier, I would have slapped her with a C-rank potion if she had continued to work at the reception desk. But now that the crazy receptionist is gone. I'm a bit calmer and if Millis-san is going to be the receptionist then I can't really complain.

With a cooler head, a while ago I'm thinking of producing as many D-rank potions as I could and having them buy it, but in the current state that I'm in that could be dangerous.

As I don't know what that maggot-headed Serga will think or do when he finds out that the child has made a better potion than him.

First, I would look for something to protect myself then I will gradually collect achivements in the guild. I want the merchant's guild or a person above the baron rank to be my supporter. Then I will raise my rank and I would probably head to another city, as I don't want to stay in the city where there's so much corruption going on. When that happened I would like to see the guild and nobles begs me to stop me from leaving this city.

....Well in a serious note I don't think I would do that, because if I do that they might get desperate and detain me or worse... but if I'm going to do that, I will do that in the time when even the nobles couldn't touch me anymore. Fufufufu fufufufu."

"....Uhmmm, are you going to buy or sell something?"

Ooops! this is bad, I was lost in my thoughs, but I guess I shouldn't give a D-rank potion for now. Shall I just create an F-rank and an E-rank potions under my clothes?

"I will, Uhmm, I would like to sell these."

I took thirty bottles of potion out of my clothes. 18 F-rank potions and 12 E-rank potions came out when I think that I want to create potions that I can hold in my hands. When I put them all in the counter Millis-san and the old guard were stunned.

....That's right anyone would be shocked by what I did. They will think how can I get that many potions under my clothes? I've really done it! I want to run away right now, but I have no choice so I will just face them head on.

"...Please wait a minute I will just confirm the goods... The quality of these potions are really good, in that case I will purchase it for this price also I will include some extra as an apology for what happened earlier."

Millis-san quietly confirmed the number of potions without mentioning anything. She's really a pro at what she does not unlike the woman I saw earlier.

After her assessment, Millis-san gently placed a leather bag on the counter. The bag seemed to have a good amount of coins in it.

It seems that the reason she doesn't verbally confirm the item or tell the amount of money that I received is that because there are a lot of people around us and she doesn't want me to stand out. That's perfectly fine for me.

"Do you have any other items that you want to sell?"

"Eh? Other items?"

Millis-san asked me that question when I was opening the leather bag and is looking at the silver coins while thinking, "Uhmmm so this is a silver coin from another world.".

I still have three bottles each of F-rank, E-rank, and D-rank potions in my pocket, but I don't want to sell those now, especially the D-rank potion I will just reserve that for the future.

"I don't have anymore items to sell as this is all I have for now. By the way, how many nights I could stay at the inn with one silver coin?"

I will divert the conversation for a bit as I want to know the current price for basic commodities and since Millis-san knew that I'm not from this city, she wouldn't think that it was strange for me to ask that question.

"For a silver coin you can stay at an average inn for two nights, if it's a luxury hotel it will cost you two silver coins per night."

It looks like there are 30 silver coins inside the leather bag, so that means I don't have to worry about lodging for 60 days. But I guess it would be less than that, since I would also need money to buy food and other daily necessities. But if the number of potions I can make resets every day then I could get at least 30 silver coins per day.

"If you want I can also deposit some of the money I gave you onto your guild card. And since some stores doesn't accept the guild card as a form of payment I would suggest to keep some coins into your pocket."

Millis-san futher explain that if I want to deposit the money I received from the sale, I should tell them that when I put the items I need to sell in the counter or I can just request it so that everytime I sold an item all the money will be deposited directly. She also said that normally, people will just deposit the full amount of money then they will just withdraw some money when they needed it. With that I put ten silver coins in my pocket for now, deposited the rest, and asked them to arrange for the money to be deposited at all times from now on.

There were only a few people at the first counter, but people were constantly coming to the other counters. It seems that no one is receiving coins at all, which I guess is the norm in this world, I guess it must be a hassle to prepare a lot of money and then count them one by one.

"The 10th counter over there is the one that deals with medicinal herbs and other products for apothecaries. Normally you can purchase items after you became an E rank but as an apology for what happened earlier I will take care of you, so please don't hold back and purchase what you need."

Medicinal herbs, huh? I don't know how to make a potion manually, and even if I bought some herbs I can't make them into a potion. Though I can't say I don't need them right? As they will become suspicious of me and when I talked to Melvin-san earlier I said that I came empty-handed when I came into this town.

Hmmm, well I guess for now I will just stock up some herbs at random. It will be a waste of money but I'll just consider it a necessary expense.

I was then guided by Millis-san to the tenth counter. Millis-san asked the receptionist at the counter to let me purchase some items that an E-rank can purchase then she left the room. I'm sure she doesn't have much time to spend on me for too long. But come to think of it does an exclusive receptionist can do what they want when their exclusive client isn't around?

"Welcome. Which products are you looking for today?"

Oops, I shouldn't have been thinking of something stupid right now. Well, there is no list or catalog at the counter. It is not clear what kind of products they have or what kind of products they sell. Yeah, this guild is not beginner friendly at all.

"Uhmm, I'd like to purchase some herbs."

"Yes, which herbs are you looking for?"

"Uhmm, for now, please give me the herbs I need to create an E-rank potion."

"Huh? What's that? ...*Ahem*. I'm so sorry but we don't have any knowledge about apothecary but if you tell us the name of the herb you need, we will see if we can get it for you."

When she said that I made a really sour face but after that I changed it to a smile, of course it's a fake smile as I don't want to be in this situation anymore. Well for the mean time I would just say that I would get everything that they have.

"I haven't been taught the names of medicinal herbs, so I can't make a decision without seeing the actual herbs. In the meantime, can you give me all the herbs that I can purchase using this card?"

"Sorry but I can't do that."

"Huh?"

An instant reply? It's not like I don't have enough money, right? Meanwhile the receptionist lady is now looking at me like I'm a piece of dirt. You don't have like that you know? I'm just a little boy.

"We cannot sell precious medicinal herbs to someone whose knowledge is uncertain. How many people do you think will be helped by the herbs that you will waste? You are an F-ranked person, aren't you? I don't know what Millis-san's intentions when she allowed you to purchase some herbs, but are you really an apprentiece of an apothecary? ormally, you have to learn about medicinal herbs before you can officially become an apprentice, right? If you have no knowledge of medicinal herbs, then you are truly F-ranked and not qualified to purchase any herbs at all. Even if Millis-san requested to treat you as an E-rank I can't sell anything to you. How dare you even compete and rebel against Serga-sama with that kind of knowledge? If you want some herbs you can find someone in town and let them sell it to you."

What she says is true and for some reason I'm not offended as I really don't have any knowledge about any medicinal herbs and if I did purchase some I would just waste those herbs as I'm not really a disciple of an apothecary and I don't really know how to make a potion manually.

But still, is there a disparity by rank here as well? Sure, it's a waste to sell precious medicinal herbs to a low-ranked person with no knowledge, but doesn't that not lead to the improvement of their skills since they can practice using it? Oh well, that's not my problem anymore.

But I did hear some good information. It seems that there are some herb merchants in this town. So I can use the excuse, "Actually, I asked a merchant in the city to help me out, but I won't tell you who it is because I don't want some nobleman to retaliate against me." Okay with that, I'm done here.

"I understand. I'll just look for herbs in the city. Thank you very much."

"Huh? Hey, wait..."

She is saying something but I decided to ignore her. I mean if you aren't going to sell me anything why force me to stay? Or maybe that's one of their negotiation techniques? They could say that they won't sell it to me and if I insisted on buying it they will sell it to me at a higher price. If that's really the case then I guess I can't trust the merchant's guild too much. And it seems that my only purpose now with the guild is to sell my potions so I can't help it but I will try not to get involved with them more than necessary.
