Chapter 16

Slave Trader IV

"Why are you saying that to an ordinary soldier like me? There's no way I have that kind of money. Also, a soldier's job is life-threatening, but it doesn't mean that the pay is high, you know? Hahaha"

"It seems you misunderstood me, I'm not asking Melvin-san the soldier, I'm asking Melvin-san the son of the lord. Is that correct, Melvn Belmond-sama?"

"How did you know that? Even in this city, only a few people know that. "

"Melvin-sama?"

"Don't mind it, Organo. I see now, you came to that conclusion when Organo used honorifics when talking to me, and since Organo is a vassal of the city lord, that means you concluded that by calling me using honorifics, it means that I'm the son of the city lord. Am I right? But when Organo addresses you Yamato-kun, didn't he also use honorifics? Or maybe there's a difference in the way Organo talks when he's talking to me and when he's talking to you? But even if Organo is using honorifics in addressing me, there's also a possibility that I'm not the lord's son but from another noble house, right? Or did you trick us?"*

That's right! Dammit! You already said everything I wanted to say! But as he'd said, it's all thanks to the slave trader, Organo-san. It's just a guess based on the fact that Organo-san's response was different when he was talking to me and Melvin-san. I'm really glad I asked Organo-san at the gate before about the family name of the ruling lord in this city.

"I'll just leave that to your imagination. Well, how about it? I'm offering you a good potion maker that willingly wants to chain himself to your house for a few years. "

"What are you trying to achieve by doing that?"

"Well, truthfully speaking..."

"Yes?"

"Is it Tsubaki-san's breasts?"

"Huh? That's not it, right? Wait, is that it? Could it be that you like dragons, Yamato-kun?"

Why are you saying it like that? It's not like I have a dragon fetish or anything.

"I like all kinds of breasts, as all of them have a meaning and a purpose, but there are certainly breasts that are wonderful and they stand above all the other breasts." *

Seriously, I don't know what I'm saying anymore.

"So what you are saying is that for you, Yamato-kun, her breasts are worth giving up the secret of your potions."

"I won't go so far as to say that. However, I can only give you the C-rank potion as that's the highest rank potion that my master allowed me to share. Well, if Melvin-san isn't satisfied with that deal, then I will take this deal to the merchant's guild. If they don't accept the deal, then I will go to another city. If that also fails, then I will go to another country. If you give me enough time, I'll show you that I can easily prepare the 300 million G."

"Very well. I will pay the purchase price for these girls in exchange for your promising to give me 100 C-rank potions. Since this is a contract between us, please deliver the potions to me personally. "

Hmmm, since he didn't negotiate the number of potions, does that mean that 100 C-rank potions are worth 300 million G? In short, one of them cost 3 million G. Isn't that a bit too much for just a single potion?

On top of that, Melvin-san said that he would personally sign the contract himself. I'm guessing that he knew the real price of the 30 C-rank potions. Could it be that the potions are worth more than 300 million G? And Melvin-san would just say to the lord that he purchased the 30 bottles of potions for 100 million G.

What I'm sure of at this point is that since they didn't renegotiate the number of potions, I'm sure that they will make a profit selling the 100 C-rank potions.

Well, since they will shoulder the purchase price, then I have no more complaints since I can get those potions for free. That means that I can get Tsubaki and Shion for practically free. I can pay their debts by selling the other potions that I will produce, so in the end, I'm the one who will come out on top in this negotiation.

"Then I'll now write the contract. [The Potion Maker Yamato will provide Melvin von Belmond with 100 C-rank potions. Potion Maker Yamato will provide Melvin von Belmond with at least two C-rank potions per month, and he will do so until the total amount that is given to Melvin von Belmond reaches 100 bottles of C-rank potions. In exchange, Melvin von Belmond will pay the full cost of the purchase price of the slaves Ryujin Tsubaki and Ryujin Shion on behalf of Potion Maker Yamato. Melvin von Belmond shall immediately pay the purchase price on the same day this contract is signed. Melvin von Belmond shall not be entitled to be the owner of either slave in any way]. Please sign this. After you sign it, the contract will be completed... Now that the contract is officially signed, I, Organo Furinga, swear and attest to my family name that I have witnessed the signing of this contract. " *

...

After I signed the contract, I made a C-rank potion under my clothes, then I gave it to Melvin-san. Organo-san was surprised when he saw that. I wonder why Organo-san was surprised by that. I signed a contract that means I'm able to provide the potions that are required of me.

That's the last C-rank potion that I can make today. So it looks like I can make four C-rank potions per day.

When I handed the potion to Melvin-san, that concluded my obligation to the contract. After that, Melvin-san formally stepped forward to sign the contract.

"My name is Melvin von Belmond, the second son of the Belmond family and a knight of the Belmond family."

Since Melvin-san is a knight, does that mean that Melvin-san is also a noble on his own? So I guess the reason why Melvin-san chose to be a knight is because he's the second son and he couldn't be the heir since the eldest son would be the next in line to the baronet. I don't know much about how the nobility works here, so I don't want to get too involved with them, and here I thought Melvin-san was a good person, but deep down he was a beast full of desires.

...

"It's a very complicated contract, isn't it? And I believe that you won't claim ownership of them when you receive all the potions, right?"

There's no way I would just shoulder a 3 billion G debt by believing in a mere verbal agreement. As it would be really laughable if after I provided them with the 100 C-rank potions and I paid the full 300 billion G debt, they would say to me that I only have half of the ownership. I don't trust the nobility yet, that I would just believe in their words.

...though it's really surprising that I made a 300 million G deal with a person that I had met a few hours ago.

"Hahaha, that's just a precaution on my part (well, if you turn hostile against me then I won't forgive you)."

"Hahaha, don't worry, I won't do anything like that to a potion maker that works for this city. I introduced you to them because I know that they can definitely protect Yamato-kun. But it's true that we can't just let them go that easily. The contract may bind you to this country, but don't worry because protecting the lives and property of the citizens is a nobility's duty. So I'll do my best to help you, Yamato-kun. "

If I had heard those lines before coming here, I would have really thought that Melvin-san was a genuinely good person. But after what had happened, when I heard those words, I felt like he was saying, "I won't let you die until I collected all the 100 C-rank potions that you had promised hehehe!"

Well, according to Organo-san, potion makers who live and work in this city aren't treated that badly, and they are also given preferential treatment.

Ah, that's right It seems that giving a potion maker a workshop and a house is part of that preferential treatment. They would also send a maid that acts as their spy so that you can concentrate on your work without the hassle of doing the housework. Seriously, this is really getting ridiculous.

Well, I will think about what to do about that later on.

"Well then, Yamato-sama, let's move on to the signing of the slave contract. I have already prepared it, so all you need to do is to sign it."

No sane person would sign a contract without reading it when someone told them to sign it. Do you really think I'm an idiot? Hmm, I see, bla, bla, bla, read, read, read. So it's the same as what I'd heard earlier. There are no weird sentences, and everything is fine. The contract that I had with Melvin-san is a lot more complicated than this, so there should be no problem even if I sign it.*

"Ok, let me check it first... All right, it seems there's no problem and everything is clear. Thank you very much, and could you please give me your guild card so that I can write down the slaves that you own? "

The guild card acts as an identification card. That's why if a person owns a slave, the slave's names are written there. That process is necessary, as it is needed when some official or guard asks the slave master to confirm his possession of the slaves. With that, the processing of the slave contract ends.

It seems that the slave and the master will not hug each other inside a magic circle or drink a drop of blood from each other to formally conclude the contract. Since the slaves are already wearing slave collars, they can't attack their new masters or escape from them. The slave collar is just a collar, and it doesn't have any special function that will force the slave to obey their master's instructions. If the slave repeatedly violates their master's orders, the slaves will be treated badly or, in the worst case, they will be sold to another person. That's why, as long as the master's order isn't unreasonable, the slave has no choice but to follow it.

"There would be no problem with them as the Ryujin tribe will absolutely obey the orders of the person that they have identified as their master."

"That means I need to get them to recognize me as their master first, right?"

"That's right. Well then, shall we go there? You need to talk to them first so that you can understand each other. "

Will they accept me? But even if they don't, I just can't abandon them, and since I've been promised that I would be given a sufficient living environment, they won't live in a harsh environment. But what should I do if they say that they don't want to work with me?

Well, I guess it's useless to think about it.

Note:

1. In the last question Melvin uses the word カマかけかい which read as kama kake kai it's apparently an idiomatic expression that means to trick someone into revealing the truth, or to ask a leading question

2. Sorry my sexual vocabulary isn't that vast yet but I'm sure you get what Yamato is saying. If you don't it's Oppai is life and Oppai is life.

3. The next 5 lines are what happened when they signed the contract.

4. Well there's no exact translation to what was written because in romanji the original line is read as honyarara 、 munumunu 、 penpenza

5. This is a long chapter with over 1800 words. After the next chapter I would put this on hiatus for quite a while since the author hasn't updated the series in about a year and a half now. I will do it again in after a few months or so.
