Chapter 14
Episode 3 Part II
"The situation regarding the territory of the Margrave Slough family?"
Sophia tilted her head as she held the cup of tea.
"Yes, it's about Julian, the second son of the Slough family. He said he wanted to become a cavalry knight to help his brother. For a second son of a margrave to think like that, I wonder if the strength of the Black Forest Guard is dwindling."
When I asked Sophia, she pulled out a notebook from nowhere and started to flip through it.
"The fact that it's not listed here means that there's nothing wrong with them, but..."
While saying so, Sophia goes to the document shelf. She takes some documents and comes back in front of me.
"Well, according to the report of the Second Knight Order, nothing really changes in the forces of the Black Forest Guards."
Due to the peculiarity of possessing military power, the Margrave Knights are audited by the Second Knight Order, like the guards of other territories. The fact that there are no reports made from there means that there should be no change in the strength of their forces.
Sophia flips through the materials again, then she suddenly stops.
"Oh, it looks like there was a flood there a year ago, and a tax exemption petition has been issued."
"The Frontier Army is basically made up of locals, right? Isn't it strange that their military strength hasn't changed, considering that they were devastated by a flood?"
"That's quite true. Wait, I'll investigate about that. That's right, speaking of cavalry knights, the director of the factory wanted to see you. He said that he finished it."
"Is that true? Then I'll go there right away."
As soon as I had got up from my seat, I ran out of my room with my guard, Lloyd.
...
After a while, I arrived at the factory, which is located to the south-west of the royal capital.
If I compare it to my previous life, the factory is about the size of ten gymnasiums put together. As soon as I entered the factory at the far end of the building, I was greeted by Director Olsen.
"Your Highness! We've been waiting for you!"
Director Olsen, who is still muscular despite his age, had the appearance and personality of a craftsman, contrary to his position.
Eager to show me his work, I said nothing more and went with Lloyd to the hidden area at the back of the workshop.
When we reached the deepest part of the factory, the 'cavalry' I had asked Chief Olsen to build was waiting there.
When I regained my memories of my previous life. In this world where humanoid robots existed, I thought, "I want to build a unique unit right away."
I'm a man too; I mean, who wouldn't be excited to see a real humanoid robot? That's a man's dream right there.
That's why I tried to pretend to be a tyrant in front of Director Olsen, and I told him that I didn't care about the budget; I just wanted him to make sure that he would finish it, and with that the production of my own cavalry went into production.
Director Olsen may look stubborn, but at heart he's a very passionate person when it comes to making a cavalry. That's why he tried to fulfil my request as quickly as possible. His subordinates have the same passion as he does.
That's why the production of my own cavalry is going well.
Right now, in front of my eyes, the body of a cavalry filled with a man's dreams is currently standing on a pedestal in the middle of the room.
It's a jet-black armor wearing a wolf-like helmet.
The crimson mane and its mask are patterned using the same technology as a "knight".
But unlike the traditional "cavalry," which looks massive and heavy, this armor uses a curved armor that looks slim and elegant."
"Wonderful! This is really great!"
When I clapped, I felt tears in my eyes. No, I cried tears of joy. When I looked at Director Olsen, he turned away and started to cry, and then the engineers around him started to cry too.
"Thank you very much, Your Highness. It looks like we really did a good job after all."
"Don't celebrate yet, Director Olsen; this is only the first step in my plan."
I then wiped away my tears and patted the director on the shoulder.
"What do you mean by that, Your Highness?"
"This "wolf knight" is just the beginning. Wouldn't you like to see a special force led by this cavalry?"
As I grin, Director Olsen and the engineers' eyes widen in surprise, and they begin to glow.
"You, Your Highness, don't tell me."
Lloyd asks me in surprise.
It looks like you want to see it too. You are a man after all, aren't you?
"That's right. I'm going to mass produce the wolf-like cavalry! That's why I expect you to fight even harder from now on!"
As I said this, the cheers of the engineers echoed throughout the factory.
...
No, I didn't come up with a special force just for fun without thinking about it.
It's true.
I knew from my training with the Third Order that no matter how fast a strike force is, it can't move unless a lord asks it to. That's why, in a real emergency where immediate action is required, they will always fall behind.
So I came up with the idea of creating a unit where they could move freely under my command.
In line with that, in fact, right now I'm building roads and communication networks in the major cities of the empire.
This would allow us to receive reports from the local Second Knight Order without having to wait for the decision of the feudal lord, and to deploy our troops as soon as they detect anything unusual.
What about the travel time from the royal capital to the site of the incident? Well, I've thought about that too.
Well, all this is just a concept for the future, and I don't think it will be realized any time soon.
That's how I explained it to Sophia.
"That's why, Mom, please give me some pocket money so that I can have a budget for this."
When I stretched my right hand across the desk to Sophia, she slapped it away.
"The only thing that is already finished is the captain's wolf-type cavalry, right? Why are you in such a hurry?"
Her voice sounded like a mother scolding her child for wanting a new toy.
"If you have a "cavalry" meant for a captain, wouldn't you want to protect the area around it?"
That's a man's dream, you know.
"Even if I give you enough budget for what you want, they still won't be strong enough, will they? You also need a budget for additional troops to make your special unit functional, so you'll have to be contended with this for now.
According to Director Olsen's estimation, to produce one wolf-type cavalry, they will need the same budget that was intended to produce two basic type cavalry.
What Sophia just said is just her compromise on my request, and I know very well that if I go any further, the amount she will give me will decrease rather than increase.
"I understand, Mom; thank you."
"Please stop doing that. Now, what are you going to do with your wolf-like cavalry? Are you planning to use them in battle? Because if no one is going to use it, then it's just an expensive toy, isn't it?"
"I've already thought about that, and I've got a perfect event waiting for it to be used."
When I said this, Sophia stared at me.
"Don't tell me..."
"Yes, I'm planning to give it to the winner of the martial arts competition at the cavalry exam to become a knight."
I don't think that's a bad idea.
Only those who have been in the Order for two years or more are allowed to take the Cavalry Knight exam. But the only people who win the martial arts competition every year are those who have been in the Order for a long time.
That's why these people already have experience in commanding a platoon, so I think they should be able to serve as captains of the newly created special forces.
Even if they don't have any experience, all I have to do is put them in a commanding position for them to gain experience.
"In short, we will give the strongest cavalry to the strongest knight we have."
As I said this, I clenched my fist.
"Don't spread the news to everyone, because even if they're not interested in the latest cavalry you've created, there are many knights who admire those who have the title of the strongest knight."
"Did you say something?"
"Yes, I did."
"Yes, I'll be careful."
